La storia di Piazza della Pera non è oggi visibile a occhio nudo: sull'area sorgeva infatti la Chiesa romanica di San Lorenzo in Chinzica, con annesso cimitero, attestata sin dal 1127. Fondata da una famiglia pisana e sempre appartenuta a casate nobiliari pisane (tra le quali anche i Gambacorti), la Chiesa fu profanata e sconsacrata nel 1784.
